To Mr Tong,
The Chinese Medical Philately Study Group.
Greetings and
Congratulations on your fifth birthday,to you and all your readers, from the
Medical Philately Study Group in the United Kingdom.
Over the years my interest
in the history of medicine, has been stimulated by
the necessary
research into philatelic issues. I have learned much of thehistory of
medicine in China from my esteemed correspondent Mr Guangwu Yang.Of course,
Western medicine is easier for me to research in my own library, but is
still exciting. Sharing such acquired knowledge in the pages of our
journal MediTheme is
most pleasurable, as is exhibiting parts of my collection
either at my local
philatelic society, or at the Annual/Biennial meetings of
our Group. I have
also given lectures (Tuberculosis and Diseases spread by
Vectors) to societies
for the history of medicine based on stamps. These were
well received, with
astonishment expressed at what can be found on the lowly
postage stamp.
I suppose the human desires
to make friends, collect items of beauty, pursue
knowledge, and relate
to one’s own
profession, all find
fulfilment in medical
philately.
I do hope that you too may
enjoy many more fruitful years in pursuit of our
hobby.
Once more, with all good
wishes and congratulations -
Yours sincerely
Stuart Menzies,
Hon. Editor
